Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Nope. My large fowl Orpingtons came from hatching eggs from Superior Farms. Roy purchased some stock from Superior Farms. Not sure if any of his Orps are from SF or not.

At Shawnee we will also have to contend with the likes of Terry Britt, Cecil Moore among many. Should any of us win Best or Reserve at Shawnee we will have quite the feather in our hat! Just to place will be nice! Has been years since I have been to the Shawnee show. So looking forward to it. We have a room reserved at the Holiday Inn Express.

Terry's Buffs are winning everywhere. I have two Buff cocks and two Buff hens. One is a pure Ewert line. And that boy has done some nice work with my flock. And hands down everyone wishes they can get a bird from Cecil. I wish I could go. Have fun.

I have known lots of judges over the years. Some I trust, some I do not. Some are great, and some not so great. In a few weeks I will show under two judges that I respect. One by reputation, Matt Lhamon; and the other by experience, Sam Brush. I have shown under Sam Brush lots of times. Really looking foward to seeing how they place my birds.

I have been to a couple of shows that Matt judged. He is very good. I talked to Sam when i called the other day to join the APA. I am more of a call and talk to someone first type of guy. And the Secretary's voicemail box was full. Sam was very nice, I can see enjoying him do his work and judge birds. And being the Prez I bet he is an excellent judge.

Several years ago I clerked for both Sam Brush and Pat Malone. Both great judges. I clerked for Steve Jones this spring. He was very helpful and I enjoyed clerking for him. Terry Britt is a tough judge, but a good one. Terry is most tough on Orpingtons and Rocks, as he breeds them.

That is what I would want is a guy like Terry. IF he is tuff on the breed as a judge he must be a very picky breeder of Buffs. I can't knock what Terry's Buff cock did for my hens/pullets. I have one really nice Buff pullet, another who isn't too far behind. Plus, I was shocked how big the heads are three of my Buff cockerels. I only hatched 22 and gave away a pullet last week for $6. Chris had bought two other times from me. And it is now a third time, so I gave him the goods. He also got my Black Copper orp looking boy. I know I can't keep them all. I promised the first to Buff cockerels toa local native of Indiana Andy LaRue. Andy has a couple of Doug's Buff pullets and is need of a nice boy. He I hope will be happy. Nice to hear you are enjoyin getting back into showing Jim. Come spring I will be happy to trade Buff eggs with you. For now I promised to take my best Buff and Black girl to the White Orp cockerel I have. It is an emergency type of situation, all wings on deck to resurect the Whites. lolol

Several years ago (I think 1994 or so) Terry Britt used some white Plymouth Rock to improve his White Orps. Maybe that would be better than the blacks and buffs. Of course you use what you have and work with it to improve.

I happen to have an Akers White Rock cockerel who is waiting on some Buff hens right now too. Now once I get my numbers up with my real Whites, I just put in my second egg since I put the pair in their pen, I will then bring in the White Rock cockerel to make a second line. And ofcourse down the road when, and I hope and prey nothing changes, my Whites offspring reaches maturity it is father to daughter and mother to son. Also, I will and do have a bunch of Blacks too. Any with lite eyes get put into these side projects like our Whites and now I have some Cuckoo lav splits to add into the White gene pool. Anything with a lite eye heads to these guys pens.
