Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I arrived at 6am Sat, and hung out for a bit and had to head back to Indy to feed the herd. Wife was up in Northern IN seeing her dad. I came in Sunday early again. Talked with several cool people. One guy was from Canada with Bill Guardhouse. Showing Wyandottes. I did not even consider asking. I am an Orp guy. My buff pullet got throttled. That was to be expected. My girl is barely 7 month ole. And I have some here I am taking to Connorsville here in IN in three weeks. I entered 8 Orps. 2 Blues, 3 Buffs and 3 Blacks. I did have Doug check out my blacks. And he liked what he felt. We both agreed I took the better breeder but not better Show bird for my Black cockerel entry. The Blue he liked. He would want more meat down under his chest. But these are young birds. And his comb shows me he is still growing. I am taking him to Connorsville.
And you have to remember the important thing is to share your enthusiasm for the hobby and make connections to better your knowledge and quality. I learned not to feed my birds till their judged this weekend. Priceless little tid bits that makes sense if you think about it. you don't want a judge to walk up and see your birds butt stickin up at them. So there is so much to learn still. And i add a little to what i know at each show. makes me want to enter in more.

OSUman sorry we don't have any visual black mottles at the moment, they have been recrossed against Our black orps and are currently just dressed in black (they are only 15 weeks old at this time), we will have full mottles chicks early next 2011 that should be real good looking. all the mottled project orps we had have been rehomed..just waiting on the new blood lines to grow out and be recrossed..

I expect to have somemore surprises in the Mottles come spring too. The granny of my pullet and mother of my Mottled molting hen will have polluted my gene pool enough to expect a few more Mottles. I am going to have to put all my original hens in isolation pens and run my best cocks on them. And make sure their offspring stays in the pen with their mommy to assure I get away from this mutant Mottled gene popping out when you dn't want it.

Sorry to chicken-butt in! BUTT I kept 4 of charlie and Jody's buffs I just hatched....fluffy butts! woohoo

One is so light and feathers are coming in light...will she darken?

Oh ok next time you get some adult birds that are mottled plz post them on here.

One of these hens is the mother to my Mottled hen. Which means Carlos Jr.'s blood is in my newly founded Mottled line.

Here is a pic from June. Feran and the Newly turning Mottled hen. And prolly the parents of my Mottled
Both are at least 1/2 Bor/sis. Seeing that I have a Mottled I am betting their full bro and sis

Since they came from one of my purebred Blacks, possibly the Milkey line, maybe not, doesn't matter, who ever it is looks and is an Orpington. Which means I need to do very little to build up size. Having Carlos blood should give the genetics for some outstanding quality in a very short time. This is the type of projects I like.
