Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Sorry to interupt all of these wonderful conversations with a question... But, I have one!

I got some Buff Orpies that are about 4 months old now.... And some of the have feathers on their head that sort of "stick up" a little bit.... It makes them look like they have big poofy heads! Is this normal? Is it a particular trait?

Thanks in advance!!

Ok... I can try to get some pics today... It's a little tricky because they don't like people... yet! LOL

The lady told me that she hatched these..... And only a few of the ones that she said that she hatched have this wierd "do" goin' on!

Pictures would definitely help identify what it is, if they're crested or something else going on. It would also be good to know what breeds of chickens she has, that could have been potential parents. If someone else got in the buff pen or they all run together, anything goes.

Here are some pics... They don't all show the "do's".... When I really got to see them up close, they kind of make them look like doves.... ?

This is a 5-6 month old hen (?)

This one is believed to be a 3 month old cockeral.... because of his tail (not shown)

The lady said that she bought the 5 month olds and hatched the 3 month olds and then decided to sell them together.....

When I picked them up she had these Buff Orps and RIR's, but she also said that she had benn raising chicks, of different breeds, to sell all summer! SHe said that when her Buff Orp went broody she separated a few hens and a roo... then set some eggs under her! So, I'm sure that they are Orps!

They look like normal buff orps to me. If the feathers stand up on their heads sometimes, it may be due to pecking or sometimes they'll stand them up when they're upset/scared. Cute pics!
