Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Quote:

Hatchery Orpingtons may start at 6 months old. But most Exhibition lines grow out a bit slower and mature at about 8 to 10 months old. Some even hang along till 12 months old.

Mine weren't from a hatchery, but they came from a private owner that I know.

I finnaly fixed the camera, sometimes its as simple as read the instruction book, all cards and internal memory needed to be formatted, the card reader I was using had been used in another camera so caused it to lock up, but after formatting it cleaned out whatever was making it freeze up..so I went out and got a few pictures of these great orps we got from Jody's farm..not only are they easy to work with, they actually like your company..I mistakenly wrote earlier that the pullet in the group was Australorp,,there were 2 pullets and both looked alike except one had longer neck, rounder eyes and she got eaten by fox befor all of the stomp fence was complete..so got confused because the 2 pullets did look a lot alike. the pictures here are actually blk orp pullet..and this is a pic of the blk orp cockeral that I will be showing this fall..Im probably going to skip the fair show this year .the weather is going to be brutal next week .. and its even hotter in downtown elmira ny..so wait it out till sept...pat might call and talk me into it..I will if the heat lets up.

blk orp cockeral getting conditioned for show with R and R also

Thanks so much, I cant take much credit for them..Jody of Hincjc (think I have that right). bred these ..they have some great birds..Im getting nervous. the fall shows are rolling around fast..sept 11 and 12th and then another after 2 weeks so Im pretty nervous..My Austrslorp rooster is just about the picture of perfection except he has one more comb point than he should ..4 - 6 are acceptable..he has 7..so taking him along anyway just because he is beautiful guy. this show is very tough australorps class, lots of entires in that class so he probably wont get much it will be good for me managing and fitting more than one bird.its still a learning curve.. I pulled a lot of broken feathers off him and hes not happy with me right now, but needed to shine him up and grow out some better feathers...was hoping to have some hens with less no of points correct that in next couple generations but like I said..I am really hen poor..Next year Im going to focus on trying to find some decent hens..hopefull I will meet some breeders at the fall shows..tried to talk to an aussie breeder last year but he was kind of snotty , last year I tried to make conversation and asked if he had any for sale....they always coop him right next to me for some reason...Our freind who runs the show said about it that one time racoons broke in , killed all of his best stock, he had to turn to freinds to recoup his stock so not a good thing to hold them too close let people get them you might have something like this happen and you have no where to turn cause you never let any out....the baby orps are little slower maturing and aussies have most of thier baby molting over at this point, these guys are still at it, but I figure they are going to be just about in perfect feather and frame by that time.you can see those ratty old feathers glaring out at you from that australorps..he does sneak out once in a while and through the woods he goes..smashing feathers along the way. we tried to make sure they got pleanty vitamin b2 so no turned toes or curley toes all nice and straight. last year I had a lot of help from APA judge and freinds in feeding for show without pushing.getting the maximum. and backing off when the times right ect...so that was nice.the glow is really starting to come out in thier feathers.

aussie lorp befor I went after broken feathers
