Yes Tom is nice and Yes he does have spectacular birds.

Tom is a hoot! I can see why Sumatras are gaining in popularity. With folks like Tom and Doug that breed will grow quickly. Tom also passed on his way of getting fantastic lacing. And you do not need to buy a UK Orp either. First two generations you take a Blue to a Black. The first offpsring that is Black from this process will go back to BLues. Tom said that is the secret. Anyone who has seen Tom's Blues know why he is successful. Eye popping lacing on the nicest lite color shade of Blue. Really makes the lacing stick out. Congrats to Tom for his BB Sumatras. He is now working on the Ameraucanas. Won't be long before he will be a threat in that breed for BB.

Finally got another site to upload pics. So who ever hacked into my Photobucket will have to hack into this site to stop me from posting pics. I know who it is too.

pic of the Russ Milkey line cockerel who got best Black cockerel

Best of Breed Milkey line Black pullet conditioned and shown by Tony Charlton. It is nice to see Russ's line finally get the recognition it deserves. Believe it or not there is some blood from my original Black cock Carlos Jr. in these birds. So it was a team effort to get Russ's birds to the type that would be winners. ONLY trait now to be improved it darkening the eyes. That should not be too much effort to correct that and they'll be dominant Black Orp line for years to come.

Actually it's sites like this that really make or brake a breed. Lots more folks here on a daily bases than any show in the world.
people on community/family forums like BYC will have the greatest influence than any other site around and that's what imo sets trends for breeds.
There are lots of farmers/poultry owners around who have great birds and some are coming out of the wood work that never will be seen at a show. You can bet some of that blood is being shown by others who don't give the credit where credit is do

My best Orp was my Brown Red Frank. He is just now getting close to turning 7 months old. And some of my peers had only great things to say for my F-1 Brown Red cockerel. I have his brother too. But for now it is all about Frank.
BV winner cause NO ONE else has any here in the USA yet alone shows them.

Few years ago MissPrissy hatched out a rooster like this from eggs I had given her. I think she called him Big Red, don't know whatever she did with him but she was trying to start a color like this. Mine was from Buff Orp and BBS Orp eggs, if I remember correctly.

Frank is 1/4 Speckled Sussex, 1/4 pure Tony Ewert line Buff Orp, 1/4 top exhibition line Black, and 1/4 BUSTOFF (who is 50% Doug's Buff and 50% Meyer hatchery mix of Black Australorp and Ameraucana). Because of Bustoff I have built in a 2 pattern gene.
This is Frank's brother Harold. I think he will be better type but yet to see if he will have the perfect color of a true Brown Red. Matt L ABA judge and VP looked at Frank and said he has great type and near perfect color. Matt said he would like to see a little more Orange in Frank's hackles. But this was 2 weeks ago and I think Frank's hackles are turning a bit more orange since then. Matt is wanting to make Brown Red Moderns and he is the perfect authority on this project bird's development.
Now I have to wait and see how Harold turns out.
Harold is a late bloomer and he is just now starting to get the red in his wings.

I've gotten red leakage like that tho in some of my Black Orp roosters and twice in the Blues from a line I used. Maybe I shouldn't have have culled them out. lol

Tuffoldhen; you never know what is in these birds nowadays. I was sold the Meyer Hatchery Black as a Jersey Giant. He wound up topping out at 8 lbs. And looked like an Aussie crossed with Ameraucana and who knows what else. :ast year I sold a smaller version of Frank and Harold to a local Fireman (Chris) and had posted a few pics on here. He looked just like Frank except narrower. Then I hatched out late last year my pullet who is a Brown Red. She has the nice rounded breast. And I hatched out 2 Lemon Blues. All decendants from BUSTOFF. Sold one Lemon Blue to a local Chef for him to have fresh eggs. She looked lousy in type. But kept the other who looks like an Ameraucana even though BUSTOFF is the daddy and a Blue Splash Orp is her mommy. So, for sure there is Ameraucana floating around in BUSTOFF. Which I am not too crazy about. But I kept the Lemon Blue Ameraucana looking girl and have her in with my Ameraucana cock who won BV from last year's Ohio Natl's. SO, I take what I get and run with it. Never knew what a Lemon Blue was until I had a couple. Frank will get one of my Blue Orp pullets. So I will make a few Lemon Blues this coming season. And prolly use Harold too.

yup and also the problem is getting some projects to breed true, be it color or type.. alot will get somethings first round but when you go any futher the genes mutate even further and things pop up that werent expected and or one has no females or males to match up to a 1 hit wonder project...

Bill that bird is neat, i like the color and body, hopefully you can futher his genes along..be a nice color to add to the USA orpington colors.
