Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I opened up my coop doors today. First day free ranging. All my birds are aged 9 weeks- 21 weeks old. I have mostly Buff Orpingtons. These pics are my 21 weekers. Their first day on the open land. :D

I think their feathers might be looking scruffy. Our summers range between 100-110 degrees and they spend a lot of time standing under the misters. Then sitting in the resulting muck to cool off. Silly birds. A dirty bird is better than a dead bird though!

this one makes me giggle. they are in awe of 'no ceiling'. :D felt awesome to let them out! i only have 4 of these pretty girls. these are not hatchery quality birds- so it may take them a few more weeks to hit the point of laying right?

Eggs should start at about 8 months old. A bit earlier if you use lights. A bit later if you don't. These huge Orps are a bit slow on maturing.

You'll be amazed what sunshine and green grass will do for those feathers now that it's getting cool enough. Well done you for keeping them cool this summer! I wish misters would work in our high humidity.I've had fans on mine all summer in 100-109 temps with 80+ humidity. Where are your birds from? Some lines lay earlier than others. My big English girl surprised me, and started at 5 1/2 months.

Just came upon ths thread. Funny on this thread you say these English Buffs are 12 & 1/2 weeks old on May 30th. How can she only be 5 1/2 months old yesterday?

Some of the Gang is the orchard eating pears . The asparagus are off limits.

Monty at 5 Months, 3 weeks. He just keeps getting bigger and broader. Excuse the grubby face and shirt front. He's been pigging out on pears.
