I have to say, I've been very happy with our purchases from Cackle Hatchery. I'll admit, since we live in Missouri, we're a lot closer to Cackle than some of the other hatcheries, so I'm sure that plays a role in how the chicks do during shipping. In our first batch we had NO losses except through random accidents. One chick managed to drown itself in the "chick proof" waterer.

In the second batch we did have two losses which couldn't be explained by external issues.

All in all I think that's pretty darn good!

These are the ducks and geese from the first batch. As chicks, and then as juveniles on the pond for the first time.

I have had my Cackle chickies for 1 week today. I have 3 Columbian Wyandottes, 1 White Wyandotte, and 2 Speckled Sussex. I will post pics as they get bigger. I am new to chickens and Cackle made this a very easy process. I live about an hour away so I just drove to pick up my chicks since my order was too small to ship (in-town & can only have 6) I ordered 4, but they sent two extra Columbians an all have survived and are doing great! Like I said, these are my first chicks, but as far as I can tell everything is going good and Cackle was very helpful before I even placed my order-I was emailing back and forth with their staff-very friendly people.

We ordered 15 buff orpington's from cackle in early spring. The hatch date was april 22nd and we picked them up at the post office in north ga in the very early morning 48 hours later (they sent 16). All 16 arrived healthy and began eating/drinking immediately.

They all survived and are doing well...they are now 14 weeks old. We ordered all pullets and that's exactly what we got. We expect to start getting eggs around the 1st week of october. They have a nice big net covered run (lots of hawks around our place) 32' X 40' X 6' 2" that we can stand in.

We have an 8 X 8 framed compost area in the run and a 4 X 4 dust bath. They do a lot of foraging in the big run and compost and don't eat a tremendous amount of the commercial feed (TSC brand). I put about 10 lbs of feed in their feeder about once a week, which is inside the coop and is always available to them. They also have water inside and outside...outside is the 5 gallon bucket with nipples that you can see in the pic.

Cackle provided us with great chicks, prompt, efficient service and we now have 16 beautiful orpington hens who will soon be supplying us and extended family with plenty of eggs. We are well pleased.

Here are my birds I ordered from Cackle this year. I ordered the Heavy Brown Egg Layer Assortment back in February and received Delawares and Barred Rocks. They are 14 weeks old now and here are a few pics. One ended up being a rooster, but the other 24 are pullets.
