Post Pics of your Leghorns

Pics
Keep the pictures coming folks! I am awfully tempted to look for some pretty leghorn chicks or, better yet, hatching eggs next spring. Are they fairly intelligent and wary in the face of hawks? I will definitely not be getting white. The Columbians are gorgeous but would also attract hawks.

Kind of got that on my brain right now.

The best layers are the White ones, though, so keep that in mind! And my White Leghorn is definately smarter than all the other girls I have except maybe the Barred Rock. She is a very good forager (never stops looking for bugs), and does seem pretty alert to what is going on above. She will run under the lime tree if she sees a hawk overhead, and is often the first one to notice them.

Okay, here's a pic of my Livornese Dorata (gold-necked Leghorn aka light-brown? Leghorn) Willow.

Getting a shot with her head up was hard. She's definitely a good forager. Very focused on her work.

there is a good breeder who has some in New York State and a fellow who has his stock in Washington State. The good ones are super rare. bob

I"m looking for LF Buff Leghorns -- preferably pullets -- in the spring.

Thanks for the info!

Contact Info for the New York breeder?

those pics that were taken at the ohio nationals, the tag has the name oaks on it, i was wondering if anyone had any contact info for him. i got some pairs at the nationals and i wanted some more.

any info for him would be great.

That would be Curtis Oakes of western Pa. I think he is listed in the Judges section of POULTRY PRESS. I keep seeing that he is reducing and cutting back the Leghorn varieties he is raising,so better check with him which ones he still raises .
