That's what I was thinking. The pic is of parent birds of the eggs I got. The eggs were sold to me as "dark brown"...I did not want light brown. Most of the "dark Browns" I have seen looked similar to the pic I posted--which is a pic of the parent birds of my eggs. I was looking back thru this thread and saw some of your pics....obviously of a MUCH darker bird. Yours are almost a dark mahogany color. I must say they are gorgeous! Thanks for the input!
I am new to the Chicken keeping fun, but have always wanted to have some layers. My name is Paige. I grew up a Townie, dreaming of farmlife. I now have a husband and 3 boys. I'm surrounded!
So I am exceptionally excited to have a few girls around! My hubby finally has given in to a little urban coop. We have a large yard and garden, I'm currently upcycling an entertainment center, (like the ones in hotels?) Into a coop. I found it at goodwill for 40 bucks! I'll post some before and afters later.
Anyway...I have 3 Leghorns, Maybelline, Sassafras, and Lou. 2 Easter Eggers, Fatty Cheeks and Carlisle. 1 RIR, Ginger, and 2 Pekin ducks, Melon and Mango. I also have 3 Cornish we are planning on butchering once they are old enough. I can't bring myself to cuddle and name them on account of that. Is it true Cornish won't live past a year anyway? I started pic posting on Instagram, please look for me! My username is Townie Chicken Soup.
I'll post pics as they grow!! Thanks in advance for any tips!!
I got eggs....the pic I posted was of the parent stock. I thought the dark Browns were a darker shade than the light Browns (yours are COMPLETELY different). Long story short, a major ice storm hit on hatch day and we lost power (for a week) and I lost all of my eggs. Luckily, one chick hatched a day early, so I was trying to figure out if it is a pullet or roo. It is four weeks old. I was looking for pics on this thread for a young chick comparison. As of now, "it" does have lighter coloring coming in around the neck. It has a very pronounced comb. It does look like a smaller version of the light brown pictured. ETA: I bought the eggs online
