Aww they are cute! I really dont mine weather they are within the standards and everything of the breeds as long as they look mostly the same and are healthy and happy.
These are the white rocks and RIR we got. Not the best pic I know but only one I have.
And the australorps we got. The roo was out "free rare breed". On our first order we got a white crested black polish as the "frb"
My free chick was a porcelain something bantam...it was something french sounding.
Almost all my birds are from McMurray and though they may not be good show quality, I love them. I have no intention of showing them, I just want eggs and feathers. I will try to edit my pist to include pics when I am at home.
Thanks for all the pics. I'll love mine no matter what they look like. Okay a couple more questions. Did all of your chicks arrive healthy? Also were your free rare chicks hens or roosters? thanks again
the free chick is usually always a roo. i did have one DOA and one of my d'anvers had a crossed beak and starved to death
.....but otherwise i was happy with their health until they got sick with the AE that was spread through the hatchery when i ordered. they fixed the problem as soon as they could though. dont worry, you wont have to deal with that. yours should be healthy
good luck with them! i ordered from ideal this year, coming in may. it's so exciting getting the babehs

The free chick is almost always a cockerel because it's a way for the hatcheries to get rid of roosters noone wants.
The health thing is almost always dependent on how far away you are from a hatchery. The biggest flaw people have in rating hatcheries is based on how many were dead on arrival. They're dead because of the time of year shipped, the weather, the PO service, and also the distance the chicks traveled.
Otherwise in REAL health concerns, no, I did not get "healthy" birds. A lot of mine died due to intolerance to the climate out here, despite what the hatchery promised me on their hardiness, some had curled toe paralysis due to malnutritioned parent stock, and some had a lot of genetic egglaying issues.
But again, all hatcheries have some kind of problem.
