Update: Happy Fourth of July!

Yes, more were laid!

I now have four RIR pullets that graduated to be hens, laying today.
I now have 15 eggs.

(This picture was taken several days ago.)

One RIR fooled me with the lighter color of eggs. I thought a Buff Orp laid the egg, but I
caught her in the nest. She laid the largest egg at 1.6 oz. Most have been at 1.1 oz.
( A large egg weights 2.1 oz.)

Tiny first egg, I'm guessing from my redstar, but no visual confirmation on that. Just noticed that she's now hanging out in the coop more and spending more time with the two other laying chickens. I guess she's a "woman" now.

Cracked it open.... double yolk! I know its probably just a wonky early egg, but wouldn't it be great if she double yolks all the time!!!

We only just started getting eggs this past week, and here is what my son is having for breakfast this morning.

We have RIR and black sex-link for those of you wondering and two of them started laying at 18 weeks old. The rest are being free loaders still.

Looked in the coop today, surprise! The girls had pulled down the barrier to the nest boxes (see bottem left of picture) , cleaned out all the bedding and deposited 2 eggs. They are only 19 weeks. I thought I had another month to get the box ready.

MY NH RED the younger of my 2 hens laid her first egg today she was hatched beginning of march so just over 4 months old is that not really young? This last week she has squatted down when I approach her in a submissive manner so I knew she was getting close.

YAHOO!!! Got my first egg today as well. 'Baby Got Back' 20 wk old Barred Rock was in the stock tank brooder full of shavings I have left in the coop and thinking of just letting them use that as a HUGE community nest box - she went back in the coop after I let everyone out in the run at 6 am.

She was in the corner with her rear in the air making little clucking sounds.

I called my 19 yr old daughter around noon to see if she'd go out and look to see if we got our first egg and she said 'no, you know I don't like chickens'. Darn, I had to wait till I got home from work. Just like Christmas, I go out to the coop, not taking the time to change out of work cloths or shoes, full of anticipation and sure enough, there it was.

One small, tan, perfect egg!!!!! SO EGGSIGHTING!!!
