Got my first egg TODAY!

From my 5-1/2 month old beautiful Black Australorp, Betty. Hers is the one on the left, beside a size large store bought egg (from cage free hens.) Betty's is perfectly formed and extremely uniform in color. The discoloration in the photo is just a little water from my hand.

All the pics are so nice! And, I'm so jealous!!

I have mainly black sex-links, a couple of cochins, and a couple barred rocks...all are 17 weeks. Waiting for that first egg is killing me!!!

Hopefully, I will have a picture to post soon!!

First egg today, I suspect from one of the RI Reds, although we have 9 girls so it could be a silver laced wyandotte, araucana, or barred rock. They're all about 21 weeks old. Here's the pretty little egg next to a regular-sized egg:

I got my first egg today. I am so excited. It's from my RIR I got 1 1/2 weeks ago. She is 40 wks old. I put my egg up next to store bought egg so you can see in comparison.

Yea!! As I was driving home today dh called and told me we got our first two eggs. Not sure who laid them but I'm thinking our black sex links are laying. If only the other two would take a hint.

After 2 weeks of my obsessing over it, I finally found my first egg in the coop this morning! Would this be a light brown or a creamy white? If it is a light brown, I'm guessing that it came from one of my 5 Buff Chanteclers. But maybe it's a creamy white from one of my Buff Catalanas? It was still warm, quite an exciting experience for this first-timer!

Update: Mystery solved. I just walked in on one of the Buff Catalanas laying an identical egg.

I went so far and pull out my color swatches from the old Martha Stewart paint collection and the color of this egg matched D18 Hooked Rug Green, just 2 space up from the Celadon Green (since it has a bit more of a muted taupey green).... truly it would be a lovely color of a wall

I love that you compared your egg to a color chart!!! I never thought of that...I might just do the same thing with my EE's eggs. I have 4 EE's and all four are laying different colored eggs. I'm eggcited too!!
