our first egg gathering was a family event! all three kids raced to the coop! But,Alas my youngest son got the honor of removing it from the nest. Now checking for eggs tops getting on the xbox! Thank goodness!

That's wonderful! And it's teaching them so much.

Weighing in at a mean, lean 1.4 oz. The first eggs from my Jersey Girls. 4 eggs small and much darker than the mothers eggs. Just found them when I went in to check on food.

Ha! reminds of my Brahmas first few double yolkers...

I will let us know if it ends up being a double! None of the eggs laid since have been this big!

Our first egg!! There are 6 hens all hatched May 1, 2013 so about 17 weeks old. Not sure who the culprit was: Either one of 2 barred rocks, 2 golden buffs or 2 black australorps! We just found a small gold trimmed feather stuck to it so it is looking like a golden buff egg.

The middle egg is ours and the larger is an egg from the store. Ours weighed 40g and the store's 60g.

Hopefully I can figure out how to post the image from my phone.

I doubt it was a barred rock. We have 5 and just recently at over 20 weeks, started getting eggs.
