One of our Leghorn girls is now a L-EGG-horn!! YAY!!!! So exciting!

I'd like to have a chicken that lays currency as well.

WOW! How exciting! So you have 4 first time layers on the same day? That is so awesome. I am waiting on 4 more to lay their first eggs. And just a bit ago I finally heard the egg song, I ran out thinking my BA was about to lay her daily egg because it's about that time and I found my EE singing. I am really excited, hoping she will start laying soon and I can't wait to see what color eggs she gives us. It's funny that my BA has been laying for a week and a half and I still have yet to hear her sing, I'm not sure that she will. I have heard her get noisy around laying time but it's not like the usual egg song. So weird but so cool that they each have their own personalities and their own ways of doing things.

It does amaze me how much they've grown on us, and how proud and excited I was to see that first egg this morning. Out of the 12 leghorns we got, 6 are left and 4 layed on the same day for the first time. :) We are just like proud parents, but mostly because we have these amazing animals that can provide food for our family if they are happy and loved. That's incredible!

It is amazing! I am still getting used to the idea of going out and bringing an egg in from my backyard!! I cannot wait until all 5 of mine are laying.

I still have just one laying but today she decided to throw a curveball by choosing a different nest box. ;-) We have thirteen pullets - 1 RS is laying, 2 of 3 should be soon; 1 of 5 BOs is squatting and singing; all 3 EEs look mature enough (can't wait for the first blue or green egg!) and I don't know about our Golden Polish pullet. She looks mature enough if she can settle long enough to actually lay an egg, lol.

Our first egg appeared this morning!!! The RIRs are 22 weeks old but I think one of the 2 Black Beauties laid this one, they are 25 weeks old I think...

The white egg is a store bought large size for comparison.

Soon I will be up to my neck in eggs!!!

Look what I found! This was an unused brooder box that never got cleaned out. I would have never found it except I happened to be in the barn at the exact moment she was climbing in. One of my 21 week old EEs has been a busy girl! Yay for first eggs!

Now to figure out how to get her to lay in the nesting boxes. She constantly flies over the coop walls to hang out in the rest of the barn...

Below is why I wouldn't have found it. This is what I see walking past.
