Our first egg was laid at about 3:15 this afternoon!

I sent them out to run the chickens into the coop and as usual, they decided to spend some time out there with them. Miss Ginger went into the nest that our BR banty roo had made for the girls just the other day. DD 13 said she heard Ginger making weird noises as she was sitting there. After she stopped DD reached under her and "TaDa!"

I was jumping up and down like a school girl when they brought them in!

We didn't expect them to lay any eggs until Jan!

I Got my First Egg Today!
Can I get a Woot Woot!

Guessing it was the BO named Rosie that layed an egg. I didn't find it until tonight. Kind of pinkie brown tint and not that small but VERY oval. So excited. Some pictures of the first egg and our barn with coop to the right. Also Cotton our silkie rooster and Rosie the BO. Rosie is almost 21 weeks old.

My precious little EE, Dexter, laid her first egg today!!! I really didn't expect one from her yet. She is just a touch over 20 weeks and not as mature as her hatch mates...but she is the first of them to lay!!! Here it is!!!

And with some other of my eggs (and some from my mom's chickies too) in my (running low) egg bowl on the counter

laid by blondie the buff orpington at 25 1/2 weeks of age. she laid this one on saturday, and another on sunday! it was mighty tasty! i am soooo happy!

Finally I got my first egg. I didn't think it would happen in this cold weather we have been having, -18C last night and has been snowing here everyday.
I'm so happy I thought I might have to wait until spring for a first egg, I wish I saw who dunnit!
It has been so satisfying bringing them up from day olds, caring for them and watching them grow and enjoy life.

The brown one is our hen Claude's first egg! Just laid 12/8/08 (yesterday). The other ones in the carton are store bought grade A "large" eggs.
Just one more reason to raise chickens. I just had to show that egg to my family members: it's ginormous!

I hope there'll be many more to come, and this will inspire one of my other hens to start.
