sorry no way to make them be quiter, but lets say you move their nest boxes somwhere where it has 3 sides so the walls will reflect sound away you if you get what im saying

My barred rock did this the other day, but she did it after she ran out of the coop and was perched on a garden bed. She did it so loud and for so long that I ran out there to check the waterer (which she was sitting next to). Plenty of water, so I grabbed her up and held her for a while till she calmed down.

thats kinda what i have been doing. Only the start squacking at like four in the morning. If my neighbors complain i have to get rid of them since i live in the city. hahah i dont even know if my city allows chickens hahahah. basically i just go up there and kinda gently kick the squacking chickens hahah just to snap them out of it. DONT THINK IM ABUSIVE hahah. its the only thing that seems to work hhahah

y dont you go get one of those cheap sheds that are fully enclosed so during night and early morn they are inside so sound doest wake neighbors then when you get up just let them out after their squaking is done

this could of been since she saw something that could cause this behavior too, anything they see as a threat they squack at to try to act bigger just like when my 2 chicks 12/13 weeks flew the fence into my layong hen pen she chaced them both in the corner and was just squacking at them, itas nature

Yeah! We finally got an egg! And tasty it was. Our girls are 5 1/2 months old and we thought maybe we'd have to wait until spring but one of them - don't know which one of the 5 - is finally earning her keep. Very exciting!

I have no idea who laid it, either one of my 4 RIRs or my one BR, but here is my first egg that I found on Saturday (next to a white store-bought egg for comparison). The girls are all 23 weeks old as of tomorrow, so I was expecting it, but I was still so surprised! I found it on the floor so I immediately unblocked two nest boxes and put a bright green plastic egg in each, and then the they caught on fast and started laying the the boxes! I was so proud, and so far I have gotten one egg a day, but today I found two, about 5 hours apart. I wish I knew who was laying!
