Got a new layer today! And a record 8 eggs! The bottom 4 are my pullet eggs and the light tan egg is from our Australorp....she has been snooping around the laying boxes for the last week. So Eggcited!

Beautiful eggs ! Congrats!

We got our first egg today…it was so exciting! We have three 19 (and a half but who's counting) week old barred rocks that we've raised from day-old chicks and Amy, the least developed of the three (at least in terms of showing imminent egg laying signs like reddened comb/wattle, squat, etc.) laid the first egg of our first ever flock this morning around 11am. I had a feeling she was close since she got into a couple of the nest boxes earlier in the morning (none of them had shown any interest in them prior). She sat in one for about 30 minutes then hopped out and continued free ranging with the other two. We went inside to make breakfast and upon returning outside found that she had laid the egg in the shavings on the coop floor! The nest boxes had been lined with just straw, so I added a layer of shavings as well as I assume the nest boxes weren't comfortable enough for her. The egg was small (weighed only 1.25oz) but was perfect in our eyes; hard, light brown shell and a beautiful bright orange yolk with healthy albumen inside. Penny and Bernadette are now on the clock for their first eggs!

I love your Big Bang Theory names!! And congratulations on your egg!

OH MY GOSH!

It Finally Happened!

I got my first egg today!

I think from my Silver Laced wyandotte, not sure though. I put a white store bought large egg next to it. I am very surprised by the size for the first egg. She also USED the nest box correctly. I was so surprised to see it laying there right next to 2 training eggs, guess they worked!

Hello!! We just returned from a week vacation in Maine and came home to 8 eggs!!!! THE FIRST ONES!! So happy! (And another blue one today!)

So we have 5 auraucanas 3 black australorps and 3 silkies.

Question 1 : will one bird lay the same color every time?

Question 2 : who laid these?

Question 3 : is each row from a different bird? (Are there 3 laying?) I put them in order of size and color.
Thanks so much!

Our first eggs came out looking like this. Not sure why. :( Our girls are about 24 weeks and are Rhode Island Reds.
