We found our first egg 4 days ago and were so excited! We have some well summer/marans and silkies that are the same age, and then a younger bunch of hens. The first egg was outside of the nesting box and it was huge. The next morning we found another egg in the same area, much smaller and darker. What are the chances that these eggs are from two different birds? How do I know for sure?

My guess is different hen since the shade and hue are so different from each other. Egg size can vary especially in the first few eggs. Congrats they are beautiful!

looks like 2 different hens to me. The only way I knew for sure with my layers was to see them actually lay their egg. Luckily I have 4 layers who all lay a different color.
