What are your thoughts on how far a 4 x4 post should be buried in the ground???? I want a 6 foot high run. I will be using the apron method with 1/4 inch hardware cloth. Will posts rot..warp?
Also using cinder blocks to support an 8 x12 shed/coop . There will be 1/4hardware cloth attached to the base of the entire floor and a foot or so up the sides. Should I put 4x4 posts in the cinder blocks to lift coop up higher. Advantages?

I think the general rule of thumb is 1/3 below ground. The key to longevity is to eliminate water pooling around the post. This is usually found when the post is set in concrete. I usually will set the post in the hole and pack small gravel around the post. Pack it tightly by adding a few inches of gravel and then tamp it down tight. Be sure the post does not move when you are doing this. Add more gravel and tamp some more. Repeat until the hole is filled. Another trick is to dig your hole a bit deeper and then throw in a flat rock in there for the post to sit on. You can also further treat the post with wood preservative. When buying posts try to get the lightest ones you can find. Those are drier than the ones still loaded with preservative.

Buy lighter ones then treat with preservative? Would I not buy pressure treated 2x4?
