Hello everyone! My name is Chelsea and my husband and I are looking to invest in some chickens. We live in inner city Louisville, KY...and know it is totally possible to raise chickens in our small backyard. BUT, my husband is a repurposed wood worker. Meaning, our backyard is FULL of old wood. Door frames, pallets, old nails...and more. Our backyard is very very crowded, and has to be, because it's the only place we can store these items. So, would this be ok for a couple, or few hens? Thanks everyone!

Next, what is your wood worker husband re-purposed to? (Sorry, couldn't resist.

The only problem I can see is that the chickens may hide eggs. Can you clear and fence an area for them?

Boom! I actually thought that right after I posted it. tee-hee. Once was a CNA at a hospital, recently repurposed into woodworker. Fun project, actually. :D

I do believe fencing an area is possible. We are actually planning on fencing an area for our two boys soon, because the danger of nail punctures is severe out there. So, maybe drawing up a new plan to incorporate the chickens?

Thanks for the feedback, and laughter.

Hi Chelsea, and welcome! Great advice already...I would only add that when you get your area for the chickens, go over it with a magnet to make sure there are no stray metal bits such as nails or screws. They'll peck at about anything to investigate and ingesting one of those will cause all sorts of grief!
