hi guys, my largest BCM appears to have some egg binding. Her energy is low, crop isnt swelling. She is having a difficult time standing, has interest in food when presented to her, especially berries from my Hawthorne berry bush, garlic, and wheat seeds. I also gave her a small amount of vitamins. She is drinking water. She had strength enough to stand up and poop, pooped out a watery poop with this weird, white stringy thing, im not sure if it is a tapeworm, or if its the film that tends to surround the egg. I've bathed her in warm Epsom salts for 20 minutes then isolated her far from the chicken area, with her own water and food in a crate. Quiet, and warm in the sun. Her mind is attentive, she doesn't appear lethargic, just weak. Please thoughts and or solutions!

I think that looks like possibly like some egg membrane or egg white and chalazia. She is probably weak from egg binding or some condition such as salpingitis or impacted oviduct. A vet or some chicken people might use an antibiotic to help prevent further infection. Amoxicillin (Fish Mox, sometimes available in feed stores) or enrofloxacin for pigeons are tow that are commonly used to help treat. Enrofloxacin is banned for chickens, although some vets do prescribe it.

For now I would get some human calcium tablets with vitamin D3 or Tums, and give 1/2 tablet orally or in a small amount of food daily for 3 days. Insert a clean or gloved finger inside her vent 1-2 inches to feel for any stuck egg or more egg matter, membrane, or shell.

So I inserted my pinkie finger inside her vent almost 2.5 inches and I didn't feel an egg, she didn't struggle, which I felt was a little odd, I actually expected a struggle. When giving her some vitamins, she was in absolute refusal to let me place the syringe in her mouth. Absolutely DID NOT WANT IT. I want to avoid giving her drugs, I'll continue to give her epsom salt baths, and massage her vent area, provide calcium and vitamins. Right now she is eating crush oyster and tums, layer feed, some hawthorne berries, and she also showed interest in cooked egg yolks. She is still incredibly attentive, her mind is sharp, it just seems like its painful for her to stand, which lends credence to probable egg binding, but not feeling anything, so im not completely sure. Is it possible for an egg to get bound further north along the line than 2 inches? She had several normal poops after i took notice of her earlier today and began feeding her with closer attention. Her crop still isn't swollen, but she is certainly having a little bit of a struggle standing and she's mouth breathing a bit, but that could also be from stress over the syringe.
