Hello everyone. My three newest hens (from last April) are constantly digging and pecking at all my pots outside. Does anyone know if they are missing some nutrient that is causing this behavior?

Probably just after whatever plant material is left over - dried leaves, etc. Just as likely looking for insects and such buried within. Being chickens - no need for alarm.

That's what chickens do, looking for bugs, weeds, plant material they can eat. They are great at turning over the soil if you have a garden area planned. Then fence them off and at the end of harvest, you can use them to work the soil and clean up any leftover veggies and weeds.

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out
