Today, we picked up our 2 Bronze turkey poults along with our 25 chicks from the PO, they are from Belt hatchery. Originally, we planned to separate the poults from the chicks, but they all seemed to get along so well, so we put them in the same trough. They were all doing great until I went to check on them a few minutes ago. One of the poults was sleeping in a pile of chicks, thinking he was a chicken too. However, the more aggressive poult was walking around pecking chicks on the head, and he even ripped out a few of the wing feathers on one of the babies. I decided to put the bully and the other poult in a tupperware bin so the chicks wouldn't get beat up anymore. The more gentle poult did not like being separated from his chickie friends. The more agrressive one simply settled for pecking the more gentle poult on the head every time he stands next to the other one. I feel bad for the nice one, but I think one of its own species would have a much lower chance of being injured than a little chicken. I am probably just overreacting a bit, but I can already see problems in the future with the two groups free ranging with each other.
