I know many people can raise them just fine, but I can't, so I have quit trying.

Well im not quiting trying by any means. I had bad luck the entire hatch. They were weak from the start the Narragansett was doing well then suddenly he just got weak and a few hours later dead. He was my favorite though when id pick him up he would push his head into my hand and between my fingers like a puppy dog wanting attention. I guess you gotta take the good with the bad sometimes and keep on trying. I have another hatch of some mixed turkeys due to hatch this weekend burbon red x sweet grass and some in a couple weeks eastern wild x Nicholas whites. Im still hoping to get some pure breed birds those are just gonna be food.

Kuntry girl I also sent you a pm :).

Keep trying. It happens to all of us. Don't beat yourself up about it. Jump back in and try again.

I got your PM and responded back to you.

Just a thought, but If you continue to have early troubles raising your turkey poults, you might want to think about water quality issues. For example, Kevin Porter's poult-rearing notes on his website identifies salt content from water softeners as a major source of early poult mortality:

"Most sodium problems arise as a result of young chicks and turkey poults consuming too much saline water. So avoid using softened tap water to supply water to your birds while brooding. Sodium poisoning can cause kidney damage (more so in young birds than adults because their kidneys may not be fully developed when first hatched), and heart failure."
