Poult strut.

I finally caught one of my lil poults strutting this morning. I've had these guys for a month now and only have had 1 strut so far.

My poults haven't been strutting much this year either. I know I have a bunch of toms (not that that matters at this age), but I have only seen two displays after 7 weeks with up to 35 poults. I thought maybe it was just me.

My poults are just three weeks old now.....When do they do this strutting and when can you tell males from females? I've got a blue slate and a royal palm.......

The one that was strutting this morning is a month old. Kinda the middle child. I have 2 that are 2 months old now that haven't strutted and 3 that are a week younger than the one who strutted. This is the first time I've raised turkeys on my own so it was intersting to me.

I have had day old poults strut. It just means they are excited. It has nothing to do with what sex they are. I have seen my whole brodder box of poults get so excited they all whould strut.

We've already sent off the two `full timers' to their new home (older fellow who just likes toms wandering the yard). The two largest llttle neck wrapping, chest bumpers. Have one left that is probably male, but is less intent on mixing it up now that his buddies are gone (left alone here with two putative females). Our Slates and Royals were kept in a small brooder and were bumping chests and displaying early in the third week. Our current batch had a lot of room and didn't get pushy nearly as often and, when they did, they had to seek one another out from across the shed and, later, the run.

Think the one below is a female (displays but never seaches out others for dust-ups. All our `persistent' biters of the yet to be realized snoods have, indeed, been male.

Love the pic! Mine were at least a few weeks older than yours before they started to strut! I love to watch them - it's so much fun.
