Was excited last weekend when I got a Merriam poult. Head looked a little"different" than other turkeys but I assumed that was just the way this variety was supposed to look. Since that time the beak has gradually bent more and more to one side. No sign of injury and eats normally. Is this type of deformity usually progressive and fatal? Can it be treated? Obviously pics would help. Will take some and post later tomorrow.

It happens from time to time in all poultry, usually as a defect or deficiency, try to add some high protein feed, 28% is best, and viatins to the water, keep the excess growth trimed off the beak, otherwise it wil continue to grow and cause more mouth deformities and eventually will not be able to eat. The 2 halves will scisor over each other basically. Unfortunately , these cases usually dont make it, but with some intensive care you may be a ble to help him .
Good luck, where did you get your merriams by the way?
