We are new to backyard chickens and worried about e.coli.

I got chicks about five weeks ago and wow have they grown fast. Shortly after we got our chicks my brother in law came to visit and for the first 4 or 5 days of his visit, he has diarrhea. He was with us for a couple weeks and then left for a week and came back. On his return, he said he was fine but had diarrhea again for a couple days and said he thinks it might be the chickens.
My wife has been fine for the last few weeks but she also had diarrhea recently and started looking up e.coli and chickens. Although from what I've read about the symptoms of e.coli are much worse than what my wife and brother in law described, the concern is there and we have to look into it.

In my research, I came across Poultry Dipslides Tests kits and wonder if anyone has had any experience with these or can recommend another method to test the chickens and their environment. Preferably testing that can be performed at home.

Thank you,
Jim
