Read on here a while back that 16% layer feed was damaging to the kidneys of males. Does anyone have any concrete info on this?

Not sure about quail but lots of research shows it does on chickens and turkeys so by extension - excessive calcium needs to be processed by the kidneys so can overwhelm.

It just stands to reason that when 1% total dietary calcium is more than enough for healthy growth and maintenance that 4% of any mineral would be excessive.

X3 You can not offer up too much calcium to males. They are not depleting it out of their bodies like the hens do. Too much calcium will destroy the kidneys of males over time.
