Poultry Netting v Hardware Cloth

With raccoons and other critters nearby, I would definitely use hardware cloth or some sort of welded wire for a ground barrier.

Stick with hardware cloth or welded wire with small openings to keep a coon from reaching thru the wire and use it for the skirting too. the only thing chicken wire stops is chickens!

If the critter attacks get real bad , surround the coop and run with electric fence that's well grounded. You may start a new breed of coon - the glowing bottle brush type that's scared of electric fence

I have chicken wire but I lock them in the coop at night. I haven't had a problem yet. I am considering adding hardware cloth to the bottom 3 feet. It's so expensive and the chicken wire came in a height of 6 ft and 50 feet long. It was much easier to install. We do live on a farm so there are all sorts of predators but they usually only come out at night when the girls are looked in safe. Good luck!!
