hi guys

on my hens i was observing them and i saw a mite crawling around the featherless parts near the eye....
and then i looked in there feathers...there werent many but i saw one or two.

ive got this poultry powder that deters mites..
but this stuff smells pretty bad and really makes a mess..

is there any other alternative to controll mites other than powder?

As a preventetive measure, I have used Sevin garden dust mixed with fine black dirt and let them have at it! It gets everywhere, so don't do it where dirt can't be swept up or cleaned off easily. But what self-respecting chicken could resist a warm dirt bath. It is ectstasy for them...
There are other methods you could find by searching. None is more fun for the chickens however!

I use Permactrin
powder and never noticed an oder.
I also use it in the coop after cleaning
and all thru their nests.
tossing in a handlefull every 3 months after that.
it also keeps flys away.

This works perfectly and its the best price i have found. When i took in the frizzle hen she was infested with mites. I dusted her immediately and the next day they were gone. It suggests dusting a second time in 7 or 10 days in case there are mite eggs that can hatch on the bird.

I use Sevin5 - there's no withdrawl time on egg or meat consumption after using it

I pour some in a Rubbermaid tote and I hold the chicken in one hand and use my other hand to rub the powder under their feathers all over. It cuts down on waste.
