poultry regs in CA?

We are having to move from our rental home in northern Monterey county CA and are trying to stay in the same area and take our 4 month old pullets with us. (that's right, we've only been here 4 months!) Looking through the county and city regulations I cannot find anything prohibiting small poultry flocks in med and low-density housing, but I am afraid I am missing something.

Anyone out there with a clue? Or a home for rent!

i know, cities make it HARD to find this info. i finally had to go down to animal control and ask an officer to explain the rules to me. after he was done i was still a bit dim about the whole thing but at least i know that chickens are "sorta" legal where i live if i keep them a certain distance from my own home (?) as well as my neighbors.
