A tribute to my 11-year-old Plymouth Rock “Roc”, Who gave up the fight this past April. She was a sweet old girl that ruled the roost! She was definitely my alpha bird. When she passed, my two Brahma girls, Stopped laying!

category: waterfowl
Breed: Mallard duck
age: 3 days I think
name: Po or Pom Pom
gender: male (We think)
I know he is not a typical duck breed for raising, but There was a duck who frequented my grandparents house(They live up the street) that my family liked a lot and she was wild and would eat from our hands. Then one day we found out she had eggs and a nest. A while after discovering her, My grandparents heard duck screams in the middle of the night and in the morning a bunch of the eggs were gone and the mama duck (Bolndie) Would not go near her nest. We believe it was a mink. My sweet old grandparents, having a soft spot for Blondie, took all three eggs in an effort to hatch them, and successfully hatched one. We named him Po. He loved to swim around with the kids and pretend he was going to attack your hand. He loved cuddles, and to just be with people. The night before he turned one week old, we believe a mink somehow got into the garage where he was kept and ate him. In the morning, he was just gone. We know he didn't run away, he would have come quacking back and he never could have gotten out of his brooder. My grandpa took it the hardest, but in the end, we all moved on. Po was much loved and enjoyed the life he got to live. : ) R.I.P Po (sorry for the sad post)
