Poultry waterer's

We have a similar waterer in our run, and it IS kind of a pain.

You've got the right idea using a sealer/lubricant on the O-ring, but be aware that vaseline can degrade rubber. Best to use a pool/spa lubricant if you can find it, or some similar non-petroleum jelly lube.

Ours would leak like yours, until I figured out you really have to crank down on the lid to get the seal tight enough not to leak. Of course, that makes it difficult to get the thing OFF when you want to refill it, but that's the only way to stop leaks in ours.

Oh My! I just bought one of these type of waterers at a swap over the weekend. I haven't tried it yet but am going to this evening. Hope it doesn't leak.

Almost 24 hours now and still holding water. It's just a tad lower than when I went out before work. I may look into adding another O-ring to fit inside lid, to seal against top of tank thing.

That dang Roo, I want out againg this morning and he charged again. I waited until he lost his footing after an attack and Snatched his Behind up!!

So I brought home one of them Chicken hook's from work.

Those are great,I have a few of those.I only seen them at TSC once but I have bought them from Strombergs and they always have them in stock.I have had a few for more than 5 years and I use them summer(hang with S-hooks) and winter(on a fount heater). You won't be disappointed with that one. Will

I'm going to have to try these. Yesterday as I was cleaning out all of my waterers, and calling them bad names I was thinking "Is there actually a good waterer out there?"

Bird Hearder, I would be wary of using Vaseline or other petroleum base lubricants on rubber seals or other components. It can eat them if it is not made of the correct rubber. Think of some of the warnings written on some family planing products. I would use FOOD GRADE silicone GREASE. That way it won't make your chickens sick (not that Vaseline should). I bought my small tub in a dive shop, and I use it not only for my dive gear, but to grease up my mustache to keep my mask from leaking. It doesn't eat the rubber, and won't burn my eyes. I use the stuff all over the place too (great for outdoor zippers etc.)

We are using an auto waterer we found online. We first saw it on BYC. Someone had found one at Wal Mart and said they loved it. We couldn't find it at Wal Mart or any where in the area so we ordered it online for $14.99. It keeps fresh water in the bowl all the time and never needs to be changed. You just hook a hose up to it and it fills when the level drops past a certain point. The only thing we modified was to put a roof over it so the girls couldn't get up on it and poop in it. We have 17 chickens using it now and plan to have 26. They love it and so do we! Our water problems are solved!!!!

That is a dandy little pressure waterer. It could be hooked up to a reservoir barrel and so would be gravity fed, if you were so inclined.

Gotta get me one of those - $14.99?? Oh, yeah!

Please tell us where you got it....
