Poults eating pine shaving?!??

Don't know if it is really OK but I have seen mine do it. No ill effects yet. Surprisingly my adults do it too even when they have free access to greens. Maybe they need the fiber:lol:.

I covered my pine shavings with paper towels to encourage mine to eat their food and let the shavings be. Once they're eating well, though, I'll let them go at the shavings!

We had straw bedding for our turkey poults, and they would try to eat it. We had to pull long pieces of straw back up their throats. So after that I dug some sod out of our lawn, and put it in the turkeys' box so they had something wholesome( in the way of grass, plantains, and dirt) to devour. Keep in mind that turkeys are very inquisitive and enjoy something interesting and intellectually-stimulating to eat!
