Poults in the brooder ?

I went to a poultry talk the other night and the Doctor giving the talk mentions
that most breeders of turkeys use circular brooders to avoid having the poults
pile up in the corners and kill each other. Anyone here have experience with this ?
My brooders unfortunately have square corners so maybe I can put something in the
corners to prevent pileups ?

Never heard of that and never had any problems with my poults piling up in corners and killing themselves. Sounds to me if they are piling in corners, they are cold. Proper temps will take care of that problem. :/

How many poults do you plan on having in your brooder? 1,000? If so, then you might consider a `round' brooder. This is primarily for large flock, commercial settings.

As was mentioned, most small flock folks only see this if the temp. drops too low. If I had thirty poults in a brooder in the mud room, I'd not let them see the cats (panic crowding - why the commercial folks like circular settings).

Well my eggs haven't hatched yet, but I've got 15 good eggs right now at day 18.
I'll have my brooders in the basement, and they be well covered so the cats can't get to them.

Guess I'll see if I have any problems and remedy it then...

I wouldnt worry about that with the number youre going to have, ive always raised my poults in a rectangle brooder without any issues. If you see a problem then you can always change your brooder but I dont see that happening.
