Hi all,
We've had chicks & ducklings for several years (actually got 19 new chicks & 6 new ducklings in March of this year), we recently decided to add 6 turkey poults and are having an issue. The turkeys are a week and a half old and are in a large rubbermaid tub in the garage until they are big enough to be transitioned into the barn & coop. Two days ago I cam home to find one of the poults rear-end being pecked at terribly. I removed that chick and put him/her in a separate box. The next morning another one. yesterday everything was good the two seem to being on the mend and doing well. This morning two more had their rears being pecked at until bloody! I grabbed the two with bloody beaks and put them by themselves and reunited the four that have been injured. But now what? Do I just have 2 "problem" birds? Is there something I need to be doing to keep them from pecking at the others? They have food, water & electrolytes at all times. We've never had this problem with chicks or ducklings, is it a turkey thing?

Thanks
Denyel

Hello. Are they under a bright, white light? Sometimes if it's too bright or their too hot they pick on each other. Also, if their space is too small it can make it worse. Even under "perfect" conditions, I think turkeys are more inquisitive and busy than chickens. Good luck to you!
