I have the coop open to their run, they can go in or out all day long. Part of the run is a covered roof, it is their choice if they get rained on or not.

We let ours do what they please except at night. Then they have to go in. SOme of ours will get up underneath where the run is covered so they don't get wet. Then others just sit right out there i it. We have three bantams that sit on the perch and get soaking wet and don't care. They'll be fine.

I don't handle my birds and disturb the natural oils in their feathers, so they don't get soaked to the skin during rain and stay out as long as they wish. They just shake themselves off, much like a dog, after they get back into the coop and they are fine.

Living in washington, if i locked them in for rain they would never get out.... i leave the coop door open all day, they go get wet, go get dry, go get wet all day long...... i figure they are smart enough to know when to dry off.......

When mine have had enough, they go inside. Except the time when Irene came through, it flooded their run, and they all stood out there in deep water, we put them in the coop. When the water level came down, we opened the door, but they decided they wanted to stay inside where it was nice and dry!
