Powdery Mildew advice?

Every year I battle powdery mildew and eventually loose my late pea crop and pumpkin vines to it. Any ideas on what to do to avoid it or better ways to beat it back?
The sprays in the store are sooo expensive that gardening isn't cost effective anymore.
I am in Utah.

I haven't tried this yet, but just read recently that a gardener sprays the leaves with a 10% solution of apple cider vinegar at the first sign of mildew. It's also important to pick up leaves in the garden area, as they can spread mildew.

I like this idea much better than the spray, thank you! All I had ever heard wad avoid over crowding and don't water from above. I never water from above, but it is hard to convince pumpkin leaves to stay in their personal space

Love the vinegar. I heard that a mix of water and baking soda can be sprayed on as well

To get rid of powdery mildew create this concoction: 1 Cup of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide to 1 Gallon of water. Soak the effected areas completely using a garden sprayer once a day. Treat for 3 days then wait a couple days to see if any other areas need treating or if you are good to go. Completely safe and works great to kill mild molds, mildews, fungus and pests while also cleaning your plants. H2o2 (hydrogen peroxide) is actually in rain water and is the earths "natural" way of cleansing.

You can also cut that mix down, 1/2 Cup H2o2 to 1 Gallon of water, and use it to water your plants if they are looking a little sick or peckish.
