Power how-to ideas needed.

I don' need a heat lamp altho a heated waterer would be nice. I just want protection from black bear now. Waterer isn't as big an issue. I have no idea how much power, amps, volts, wire, etc I need. That's all Greek to me. Like I said, I need all the info I can get! My run is currently 10x10 but hopefully in about a month or so can be extended to 10x30. So when you say your coop is bigger than mine are you including run?
Oh! I just realised that extended size isn' reflecting the hopefully soon to be build bigger coop that will be attached to the end of the run rather than inside, so add maybe another8-10 feet?
Can you get an electrician out for a free estimate to tell you what you have going on? How many amps to your house, do you have a 20 amp circuit already powering outdoor lights, what does he or she think about getting power out to where you want it?

Oh, and there is no running wires underground with solar fence chargers, they hook up right to the fence.
I understand they usually hook right up to the fence. My question is because in summer the trees will be full of leaves blocking constant Sun. I wanted to put the panel on a full sun fence that is 50 feet away and bury the wire so I can still mow the lawn.
I have lots of black bear among other predators.
I am at full capacity in my house for amps, volts, whatever. Not an option.
I think I have answered every question at least twice, maybe more. :idunno

Sorry Cryss, I know how frustrating this can be. I cant advise about solar panels as my husband is out of town. We live totally off grid up in the hills in S. Oregon so we definitely had to do some tree clearing to make solar possible. It is very effective against bears as they have a lovely big set of paws that do not take well to being shocked. They learn quickly as do raccoons, foxes. We have weasels here also and they can get through small holes in fencing. Anyway, I dont know if tree clearing is a possibility for you but it might be worth a look see.

No offense but actually you haven't. And if these questions are confusing to you then I really don't think this is something you should DIY.

I'm really not confused. I simply want to know more about solar and or battery powered fences. I do not want to hook up to my house power. My answer to questions about my house power is simply that it is not an option.

Solar should work, at least if you have a reasonable amount of sunshine available.
Premier1supplies.com has good products and good advice, both online, in their catalog, and on the phone. Maybe better than an underinformed person at the feed store.
