I have 62 duck eggs in two incubators. Last night's big storm knocked out power from 6pm until 1.30am

Its a staggered hatched so I had 20 eggs on day 5 and 20 who only gone in that morning in the hovabator and 18 eggs on day 3 in the brinsea.

The temp dropped 5 degrees an hour despite the blankets I put over them. They were down to 80 degrees or so at 10pm so I went out and bought those chemical heatpacks for bad backs and put 3 of those in, but the heat packs only got up to about 93 themselves and only last maybe an hour an a half.

Anyone know what they're chances are? I'm so so upset.

In fact things are going badly all over. My broody has 11 eggs under her and they keep popping out and getting cold - she's like a ball popper toy - put an egg infront of her and they pop back out under her tail! The eggs spent the first 15 days in the incubator and then have gone under her, and I'm not too hopeful as I think they're getting chilled

You're mostly okay. I had a 100% hatch a few months ago from eggs that were accidentally tossed in the garbage (50 degrees out), and the bator off overnight. I also had a chick hatch after being in the fridge for a day prior to incubation.

Mine was out from 4:30 yesterday until 8 am and my silkies are still moving. They are about 1 1/2 weeks in. It's too bright in the room now to see into my olive eggs but I figure if the silkies survived then they probably did too. Mine were down to 70 degrees for most of that time. There are 5 more silkie eggs in there that were on day 5 and I see good veining in some of them so

for both of us.

I think your chances are pretty high. One of my hens left the nest for 6 hours, because she accidentally went into the wrong house, had been out all day, so could have been for up to 8 hours. The eggs were stone cold. Out of 8 eggs I got 7 chicks.

wait a few days and candle. The eggs you put in closer to the power outage should have a higher chance of hatching, from what I've read. I'm sure your eggs will be fine

good luck!

Sounds hopeful, thankyou.
I shall candle a few tonight - the older ones, and check on the others in a few days.

Wish the weather would settle down!!!

I am also in this boat too - My power went out for 8 hours today (11am - 7pm) while I was at work.
24 pheasant eggs in a basic polybox incy......they are on day 2-3 of incubation......i am so annoyed.
The temperature got down to 21 degrees C (70 degrees F) and the eggs were cool to the touch

Incubator now on and warming up......I really hope some of them make it!

Good luck and keep us updated - I will let you know how mine get on.

mine was out too over night friday night and most of the day Saturday, I slept through the nighttime outage so I dont know how long it was out or how cold. My husband put the bator on an inverter with batteries for saturday so that was okay.

I candled a representative sample last night - of the oldest eggs I saw an eye bobing about in one, spiders of veins in the others ( how long would a blood ring take to form after death - anyone know?), and the ones that were on day 3 when the power went out one had a heartbeat, the otehr 3 I looked at didn't but it is still early.
So

- at least they're not all dead

My power went off once for 14 hours and they hatched OK.
A few years ago,I had a bantam hen that had nested on the ground outside the pen.Something got her during the night, feathers everywhere,no hen in sight. The eggs were not damaged, but were cold to the touch(temps in mid 50's).I put them under another hen and they all hatched.
