I have 9 two week old chicks. The power went out anout an hour ago, we moved them upstairs into our living room with some natural light, but it’s not very sunny out. They usually have a heat lamp but it’s out right now. I put in a hot water bottle and none of them are going near it, covered the broder with a blanket too. Any other tips on how to keep these guys warm?

Hi there, sorry about the power outage! They should mostly feathered so if you give them a box they can huddle in and keep them upstairs the should be ok. What are your outside temps?

It’s about 45 degrees out right now. We took them outside to play a little yesturday when it was 55 and sunny and they were fine. Just worried now cause there isn’t much sun coming into the house and it’s raining.

If they're running around ok then they're probably fine. If you find them all piled up huddling together they're likely chilly. You can cut one side off a box and cover with a towel and put them under it to help them cuddle up and get warm. Then add the hot water water bottle between box and towel.

How warm is it inside?
As long as they're together, they'll be okay. Plus, the heated water bottle you gave them should help.
