High winds apparently either took down a pole or dropped a tree on the line sometime during the early morning. (We're the last house on the line so if it is out anyplace, it will be here.) Power went off at 5 on at 6 then off, came on as a brownout at 7 so I had to shut off the pump, furnace and refrigerator--fortunately there was enough electricity to operate the coffeemaker--then on again at 8 so turned them back on but 10 minutes later it went to brownout again so I shut them off. Finally, about 8:30 the power went off completely until about 3 pm. Since it was in the low twenties with 50+ mph winds and blowing snow, I didn't much like the idea of going outside to mess around to turn on the generator so we just build fires in our two wood stoves and rode it out--originally the power company said the power would be restored by 11. Once it came back we had to go around the house and reset every clock but, in the process, I forgot the timer on the chicken coop lights so they're going to be roused in the middle of the night. (By the time I remember it was dark so I didn't want to reset it by turning lights on then.) Interesting aside: the power originally went out before the light was scheduled to come on so the birds slept longer, I think this plus the grey day led to my getting about half the eggs that I normally do when I made my first collection. It does make a difference.
