So, I woke up this morning to no power... I jumped out of bed- literally- and had to go get firewood (of course there was none stacked by the house!). But of course, I check the chicks first... the brooder seemed to be holding heat ok, so I went and got wood and was prepared to bring the babies in the house... by the time I got the wood loaded in the car and back to the house, unloaded and started to build a fire in the wood stove, the power came back on... crisis averted... Well- the power went out AGAIN 20-30 minutes ago... I now have 37 chickies in my living room by my wood stove to keep them warm... my garage just was not warm enough, and the power wasn't on long enough to re-heat the brooder... my poor dog is being TORMENTED by the sound of the chicks peeping... (he's a Black Lab and my hunting dog...)! My 11 month old daughter however, who LOVES the chicks, could care less! Luckily- I got my coffee made before the power went out the second time, so I should be good... Hopefully the power comes back on soon.... the battery in my laptop is about to die!! Lol....
What have you done when the power goes out? Oh, my chicks are 2 1/2 weeks old, so they do have quite a bit of feathering, which helps... but they were all huddled up in the brooder in the garage....
