Pox in throat...I think?

Hi every one, I have a Belgian d'Uccle hen and a chick that I think have the beginning of Fowl Pox. I think the hen has it in her throat because I see her gasping sometimes. The little chick is getting it on his eye. We went through this last year when several of my birds got pox and most made it through. But I want to know if there is anything I can do to bring down the possible inflamation in the throat, or help them both to recover from it? I just put them on antibiotics but that will just help them from getting a secondary infection, right? I thought about putting them on Prednisone for the inflamation, but that will compromise their immune system. But I am also thinking (I have been thinking about this for a while as you can see

that isnt pox a virus that they can only be given a vaccine for and nothing can really touch it once they have it?
Does anyone know what I can do here to help them and if I am right in my "thinkings"? I need an affordable suggestion please, we cant afford much at the moment. I will take any suggestions and can any one tell me more on the Pox vaccine??

All I can tell about the vaccine is that I've vaccinated for the past 21 years and it has been 100% effective..I'ts to cheap and reliable not to, Especially since you have it on the yard now..Wet pox I have no advice on, I would always cull the ones that had it really bad...Did your D'uccles come from Russell Booth? he was a really good friend of mine

I just had a bantam cochin frizzle(the one in my avatar) get over wet pox. It was really bad. She couldn't eat her feed at all, so I fed her cooked oatmeal and yogurt and cooked egg. She was able to eat this, but only a little. I also gave her Pedialyte with a syringe. I did this several times a day for a few days, as I didn't know if she was drinking at all and I wanted to make sure she was staying hydrated.
Someone at my feed store recommended that I try canker powder. So I went to Walgreens, but they didn't have the powder, only the gel, so I bought that. It was around $7.00, I think. I applied it twice a day with a q-tip. It really helped dry it out quicker.
I would separate your little d'uccle. I kept mine in a cage with a light on for at least a couple of weeks until it was gone completely. And then let her out into "general population". She has gotten over it completely and is fine. Good luck.

YES!!! I did get them from him about 6 years ago! They are amazing birds! (If you want to see pics of them you can go to my page.) Do you have any birds from him? How did you know him, and can you tell me more about him, I just wish I could have gotten to know him better. We just met him down at the Lake City show in Fl once and we really didnt see him after that, but that is where he gave me my first birds! I dont really know too much about him but he was such a nice person!!

Hippichik thank you for the info!, I am going to see if I can find some mouth sore gel or something... that's genius! And I am glad your chicky is feeling better, I hope mine are as strong, especially with this cold weather (they're Floridian chickens you know!
