My mom's test results just came back (pet scan, some test where they put a tube into her lungs to check on a mass?)

She has to go in next week for a needle biopsy. They are thinking that it is lymphoma, hoping it's not lung cancer.

Her dr. told her that lymphoma is the easiest type to treat. My exFIL only lasted fro two yrs. once diagnosed, although his was agent orange induce which I would imagine would make a difference.

My dad has been fighting lymphoma for years, he was in remission for a few years, now it comes back every year like clockwork.

I don't think that she remembers this(they have been divorced almost 40yrs. with barley any contact)
I don't want to tell her as it would worry her. Her dr. told her that if it is lymphoma, it's just a matter of taking shots and pills, that simple.
If lung cancer they will have to take part of her right lung.

She is very worried but optomistic.

Praying it is not lung cancer! Hoping and praying that it will turn out to be nothing! The waiting is hard, it's good that she is optimistic!

My Nan-in-law just got done with her treatment. She had the tiniest spot on her lung. They did a new type treatment where they inject her with gold, yes, gold and then she has radiation treatments. The radiation ONLY goes to where that gold is. It was truly amazing to hear about it. Nan is 83 yrs old and walks 2 miles everyday. She has NEVER smoked and she is a trooper. She is doing fine now. In fact, she goes in today for a CAT scan to make sure they got it all. On a lighter note, I told her at least she was worth more now. Good luck to you and your family, keep positive, it helps.

Thanks everyone. They do believe that is IS some form of cancer. They were hoping that it wasn't the uterin cancer she had a few years ago that had spread. If that's the case it may be elsewhere also. She said that it is a fairly big spot(I assume that means bigger than a quarter).

I hadn't ever heard of injecting gold, that's interesting. What will they think of next.
