Praying Mantis Thread

I was always going to purchase some to keep as pets. I never have though. Couldn't believe how many different kinds there are. Used to catch them as a kid but always let them go.
A couple years ago there was a really big one, biggest I ever seen, on the road way of a menards parking lot. He was so big I was afraid to pick him up, so I kinda brushed him along up onto the sidewalk and then onto the building so someone wouldn't kill him. If I would of had something to put him in, I would have brought him home to my yard.
I hope you keep updating us on their growth, etc.
I think you may have sparked my interest again in getting some.

For awhile I kept a small pet carrier in my vehicle just in case I came across an animal that needed rescuing, but a praying mantis would have probably gotten through the wire door, if it wanted to.

I need to put it back in my car.

I always have a dog cage in my car. But, yes, he would get thru the wires. I do have a soft duffle bag style dog tote that, thanks for your reminder, I could throw in.

Chinese mantids are free game because they are invasive. Ootheca and all. Just make sure not to release em.

They are 12 days old meaning that they will do their 2nd molt soon! I'll raise the humidity and watch them like a hawk. Fingers crossed that they both survive.

Yes!! Might have hatched already though.

My sister did have a flower mantis years ago. She sat in a plant in the flower window, didn't need an enclosure, she stayed on that plant when well fed (got tiny crickets as food, given with a tweezer).

Ok, from observation a Chinese mantid L2 should eat 2-3 fruit flies every other day.
