Well, I might have been mistaken on who laid the tiny brown egg. I thought it was my barnavelder, but it doesn't appear she has laid anything yet or maybe that was the only one. I am so confused. I put my husbands game cam into the coop to see who was laying what and I see her laying on the nest for 1-2 hours at a time, but she never lays an egg. Is this strange for an almost 1-year old barney? She has been doing this nesting thing the nest box since mid-late November. I have 3 brown layers and I have never had more than 2 brown eggs in the nest at one time. Is there a chance she might never lay an egg? She tries awful hard and really seems like she should be laying eggs.
I do know from the video, that she sometimes gets kicked out of the nest by the head hen - would that cause her not to lay eggs? She is usually in the nest for an hour or two before she is kicked out.
Anyone encounter this before - a bird nesting for hours and lays nothing? Again, she has been doing this for almost 6 months. My husband always jokes that she will be the first for the stew pot, but I told him that we need to wait until at least the end of summer before we make a decision. Got to give her a shot to work this out.
