If the dose for:
Praziquantel is 10-20 mg/kg or 5-10 mg/lb
and
Ivermectin is 0.2 mg/kg or 0.09 mg/lb,
then could there a problem with overdosing on products that contain both Praziquantel and Ivermectin?
Equimax contains 14.03% Praziquantel 140.3 mg/g & 1.87% Ivermectin 18.7 mg/g.
Equimax praziquantel dose @ 10 mg/kg or 5 mg/lb is 35 mg of paste per lb. (5 / 140.3). That is fine and dandy but you are also getting an Ivermectin dose of 1.2 mg/kg or 0.6 mg/lb. (0.6 / 18.7). I read somewhere that the maximum dose for Ivermectin is 1.2 mg/kg so that is cutting it close at the minimum dose for Praziquantel.
Zimecterin Gold contains 7.75% Praziquantel 77.5 mg/g & 1.55% Ivermectin 15.5 mg/g.
Zimecterin Gold dose @ 10 mg/kg or 5 mg/lb is 64 mg of paste per lb. (5 / 77.5). Now you are getting an Ivermectin dose of 2.2 mg/kg or 1.0 mg/lb. (1.0 / 15.5). That is almost double the maximum Ivermectin dose.
What would you do in a case like this? I would like to hear other peoples thoughts.
If you cut back on the Praziquantel to 5 mg/kg to suit the Ivermectin dose, then the Praziquantel is less effective.
One could avoid Zimecterin Gold all together and use Equimax, but you would need to be careful about giving the correct dose.
If one uses Zimecterin Gold at that amount, then you could argue the maximum dose for Ivermectin is 2.2 mg/kg.
