Predator attack. Please help - who did it??

You can see how whatever it was, probably raccoon, just reached in and tried to pull the poor thing through the wire.

Hardware cloth is the answer!

I have seen opossum here before so it is very likely.

Leave carcass in place.

Get a couple dog proof traps (link below) and wire chain to a 8 x 8 x 16 inch concrete block. Bait with something like a messy marshmallow.

Kill captured coon with headshot using light firearm or a club. Cook on open fire and feed to chickens. Assume more than one raccoon involved.

Did you ever put up your game camera? It has probably been lurking looking for an opportunity for another kill. I have seen a fox now and then lurking on my cameras and tracks around my coops. Luckily no birds have been taken. I'm pretty well fortified.
