Predator behaviors

Hello, and welcome to the BYC community. Sadly the fact is that many predators like chicken and will continue to return once they have killed.
Thank you. Yeah my neighbor has a lot of chickens too and between roosters and hens that brag about laying an egg, it really does attract the predators.

I really think those little structures help. I have taken large branches from fir trees and built t-p structures and they can hang out under and the last place I lived had a wide open space. They hung out under that shelter a lot.
Yes, it definitely helps. If your run is a reasonable size, putting netting over it is an even better deterrent. It’s cheap and easy to install with some zip ties. It may require a support in the middle, for which I dug a hole and stuck a post in it.. no cement necessary. That completely stopped the hawks that used to take many of my birds.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

I've had great success keeping my flock behind electrified poultry netting with lots of good cover for aerial threats. I see hawks fly over daily. I have only lost a single bird to a hawk with the flock contained in their 1/3 acre pen.

I did the same. I hawk netted with posts a 40x60 foot area. It is tacky to look at, but I don't have aerial attacks any longer. I bought some really good netting that was recommended by someone here over 7-years ago. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06WP82KC6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
